Why Is Cold Therapy Beneficial?
Cryotherapy is thought to reduce discomfort and inflammation while also improving blood flow in the area. This is particularly useful if your child has suffered from an injury or undergone surgery and requires targeted pain relief without the use of painkillers. Using cryotherapy to treat injury can also yield faster healing times, so your child can get back to normal as quickly and as safely as possible.
Can the Cuff Be Used on Either Ankle?
Yes, the cuff is interchangeable meaning you can use the cuff to treat whichever ankle your child has injured.
Can I Use the Cuff to Treat Other Injuries?
The cuff is versatile in design, allowing for it to be used to treat other injuries such as those to the knee or elbow.
How Do I Use the Cryo/Cuff?
To administer the cold therapy ankle cuff, please follow these four simple steps:
Step One: Prepare the Cooler
Connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill the cooler to the line with water. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top before closing the cooler shut. Allow up to five minutes for the water to cool before use.
Step Two: Apply the Cuff
Close the bottom flaps under your child's foot and place the foot inside with the heel against the back of the cuff. Wrap the foot cover around the foot and secure using the bottom strap. (See figure 1).
Next, wrap the ankle cover around the ankle and secure with the top strap.
Step Three: Fill the Cuff
Connect the blue tube to the cuff. Raise the cooler no more than 15 inches above the cuff and allow 15 seconds for the cuff to fill. (See figure 2).
Place the cooler on a stable surface, the base of the cooler should be level with the cuff. Plug the cooler into a power supply and turn on by connecting the cord to the lid.
Step Four: Refill Cooler
To refill after use, unplug the cooler and repeat step one.
For more information about how to use the cuff, please see the user manual below:
How Long Should the Cuff Be Used for with Each Use?
You can use the cuff to administer treatment for a period of up to two hours at a time. It is advised that you leave at least 20 minutes cessation between each use to allow for patient rest and recovery.
Use with Skin Protection
It is vital that you wrap the skin of the affected area of your child's injury with a cloth or bandage before using the cuff. This is to create a bridge between your child's skin and the cuff in order to avoid injury such as skin burn.
How Do I Keep the Cuff and IC Cooler Clean?
To keep each unit clean between uses, simply hand wash with soap and hot water before rinsing and leaving to air dry. You can use this method to clean the tube assembly also.
